Description
St. Patrick's Cathedral holds the title of New York City’s most distinguished sanctuary. Located directly across from Rockefeller Center on the corner of Fifth Ave., the church is a holy gathering place which welcomes over one million people each year to light candles in expression of their individual form of spirituality.
The famous 339-foot-tall chapel holds some of the most prized art, music instruments and more inside its walls.
Several parts of the parish lead to another world of fascinating history and tradition many don’t know about.
The two copper doors located underneath St. Patrick’s altar direct you down to the cathedral's crypt, which is home to several of the city’s previous archbishops and cardinals who led conregations. The crypt is also the grave site of prominent figures including former slave and philanthropist Pierre Toussaint.
